Leg 3 of the Solitaire Du Figaro
Posted on : 08/07/2012
Of late, the news and events have been very UK dominated. It is after all our summer (believe it or not) and we do have some great events. Thinking olympics, superyacht and clipper .....
Of course, there are other events happening in other locations. For example, the third leg of the Solitaire du Figaro started today at 1pm with the 35 competitors heading out for a round tour of Brittany and the Southwest Coast of England. This is a solo or single handed race. Not for the feint hearted.
A short sail in the Bay of Saint-Gilles Croix de Vie and then the fleet heads out towards the Raz de Sein and then the Chenal Du Four. A channel crossing to the Wolf Rock and then a passage along the coast to Portland and the Isle Of Wight before a starboard turn to Cherbourg. The weather remains unpredictable but the racing should be exciting.
The racers are expected in Cherbourg on the 11th July 2012 after 486 miles. Can’t imagine that many will get much sleep.
This has been a three stage race. A semi ‘tour de france’ and of course in the best traditions of French Sailing where these kind of events attract a great following.
