Government Cancels Fuel Duty Rise
Posted on : 26/06/2012
The UK Government has announced that it is postponing the planned 3p increase in fuel duty that was planned for August. Some voices of concern were being raised as the deadline fast approached and it appears that this represents a change in policy. Labour was threatening a vote in the House of Commons and there had been voices of concern from some Conservative MPs and a campaign by the Sun newspaper. In response, the chancellor has said there will be no further increases this year. It was felt that the loss of revenue would be covered by savings in government departments. Expectation was that the rise would go ahead as 'the government didn't have a bottomless pit' . My how things change .
