Cowes Powerboat Festival
Posted on : 20/08/2012
Received a timely notification of the Powerboat Racing Festival at Cowes this weekend and put this into circulation.
Its a festival of motorboat and powerboat racing commencing Friday 24th to Sunday 26th August in Cowes on the Isle Of Wight.
Within the festival are the classic races, 'Cowes-Torquay-Cowes' and Cowes-Poole-Cowes'. Tremendous spectacles on a good day with fantastic rolling starts. There are practice sessions in the western solent on the 25th August between 1330 and 1530. Starts are in the region of Gurnard north cardinal mark with finishes in the roughly the same area.
The notice to mariners reminds people that these are high speed vessels and all spectating craft are advised to keep clear. Common sense in reality but the solent can be a busy place especially on a fine day.
There are some good spots along the way for those with a camera including Keyhaven, Alum Bay and the Needles.
Other events will be taking place including P1 AquaX Champs on the 25th August in the region of Egypt Point and Gurnard Bay.
Very colourful event with lots going on in Cowes itself. Lets hope for good weather.
