Canal & River Trust Approval
Posted on : 28/06/2012
On the 27th June 2012 Parliament approved the British Waterways Board (Transfer of Functions) Order 2012. This will permit the formal launch of the Canal & River Trust (CRT).
This launch is now scheduled for the 12 July. The occasion is to be marked by events throughout England and Wales. If you are out and about along Inland Waterways and Canals then keep an eye out or look at local and online information sources to see what’s happening in your area.
'At the same time, Parliament also approved the abolition of the Inland Waterways Advisory Council (IWAC) which was a statutory body created to advise British Waterways.' - RYA
'CRT’s view is that IWAC’s functions will largely be taken over by the Trust’s Council, though there are likely to be a couple of meetings of the National Waterways Forum, a follow on from the BW Advisory Forum which has also now officially ceased operations.' - RYA
Changes in organisation and structure are no doubt inevitable. CRT has formed some Advisory Committees, covering Environment, Navigation and Heritage so far. Other advisory committees may follow.
