Jeanneau Prestige 42 Flybridge Cruiser Review

Jeanneau Yachts built motorboats long before they turned their hands to sailing yachts. The Jeanneau Prestige 42 is  an eye catching motor cruiser that will turn heads both at sea and also in the marina. The Prestige marque has a  range of popular models that are as sought after today, as when they first left the factory. This Jeanneau Prestige 42 is a natural extension of what has been before but given its overall length and proportions, they offer somewhat more for the discerning owner.

The Jeanneau Prestige 42 optimizes the classic French style of modern sophistication adorned with a champagne coloured ‘cool’ hull. Whilst its beauty is undeniable this boat doesn’t compensate style over substance. Two of the distinct features that are immediately apparent in this vessel are the cavernous space and fine headroom. The interior of the boat is well appointed and with lots of storage space too.  The master cabin features an island double bed, while the starboard cabin has twin berths.  The joinery looks nicely finished and practical and the overall design gives a feel of style and elegance.  This cruising yacht is ideal for a family holiday and enjoyable passage-making.   If you are looking for a good value larger cruising yacht  then this Jeanneau Prestige 42 will go a long way towards  ticking all the boxes!

What about the performance? This boat can still ‘turn it on’ as a sports cruiser and there is plenty ‘under the bonnet’ as it gathers a speed of some 30 knots with the 425hp diesel twin engines, as you would expect for a boat of this size.  The helm is well equipped with Raymarine navigational gear including autopilot , a vital resource for any cruising trip you wish to venture. Jeanneau’s are known for their ease of handling and this boat is no different with its user friendly cruising while it still remains sea-kindly for all those on-board. Safety features include, bow rail and good sized lifelines ensuring all users, especially children, remain safe while walking around the deck.

The exterior of the boat offers an ‘al-fresco’ experience on a beautiful day, with an extended boarding platform that can be used as an extension of the deck or even for keen anglers. The cockpit is spacious with its cream leather seating in a saloon type format, perfect for a summer gathering. The cockpit on the boat we viewed had a full cockpit enclosure which allows for use no matter the weather. The flybridge provides the best of both worlds offering practical design and instrument layout, yet integrating the fixtures and fittings  perfectly for the socially active, with lots of space for friends and family.   The dual helm position deals with sunny or rainy days so that when you are not able to brave the breeze on the flybridge, you can snuggle up and point the boat in the right direction from inside.  All Jeanneau’s are built to European Standards using solid GRP and core decks. Wide and open, maintenance shouldn’t be too difficult and the sleek fittings and rounded edges should all assist when it comes to tidying-up after sometime away.
